Earlier this morning the Big East announced the winners of some individual awards. This morning’s announcement saw the Wildcats taking home more accolades and hardware. Darrun Hilliard and Daniel Ochefu share the Big East Most Improved Player Award.

Hilliard emerged this year as one of Villanova’s important players. He was the second highest scorer on the team, right behind James Bell, with 14.4 points per game. This is a higher average than last season’s 11.4 points per game. He has also been more efficient in shooting the ball. He is shooting 49% on the floor. His 41.4% from beyond the arc is among the top 5 in the conference. Defensively, he was tied for sixth for most steals in the Big East.

Ochefu has come along nicely over the course of the season. He excelled in the paint as a post defender, averaging 1.5 blocks per game (fourth best in the Big East). He made a number of monster blocks that got the crowd going. He averaged 6 rebounds per game this season. As the season unfolded, his offensive play improved. I won’t forget the two big dunks he had at the Garden against St. John’s.
